Merchandising Intern

Position based in Accra, Ghana

Ethical Apparel Africa (EAA) is a sourcing company that provides international apparel brands with ethical, cost-competitive and quality manufacturing solutions in West Africa. Our vision is to demonstrate that ethical manufacturing can and should be done at industrial scale, not just associated with luxury products. Based in Ghana, EAA has a dynamic team bringing decades of experience from around the world in product development, quality assurance, account management, social impact, operations and finance. 

 

EAA is working to unlock the tremendous potential of the West Africa apparel industry, supporting African-owned factories to grow exports to our clients in the US and the UK. EAA focuses on developing factories in a lean, sustainable, and ethical way that sets the standard for garment manufacturing in a West African context. We work closely with government and development agencies to develop an ecosystem for industrial growth. By 2030 we aim to create 10,000 worthwhile jobs in the apparel sector in West Africa. Position overview

 

This is a great opportunity for a dynamic person willing to learn new skills in merchandising account management, inventory, external communication and product development. The following shall constitute the “Responsibilities”:

 

Order and Critical Path Management 

  • Support the Merchandising Manager to proactively plan and execute the Critical Path: 

    • Set up all new styles on the CP according to client

    • Work with the Merchandising Manager to agree the timeline specific to each style

    • Ensure all tasks achieved are completed on the CP

    • Work with the Merchandising Manager to revise the forecast where any changes occur and flag any impacts to concerned teams, during weekly CP meeting

    • Check the MG production report and the factory DPRs for output against plan and flag any concerns to be able to meet shipment date to the MErchandising Manager

 

Sample Development

  • When a tech pack is sent use the Master Style tool to set up a specific style tool for each garment that requires costing

  • Update the CP Priority list with any sample and costing requests weekly

  • Ensure regular house keeping of internal style files in the Google Drive and physical files

  • Ensure all samples in the EAA office are suitably labeled and stored for easy tracking and protection

  • Ensure any samples sent by courier are correctly labelled (garment and package) and filled in on the logistics tracker

 

Production

  • Work with the Merchandising Manager to learn and be able to complete the ordering sheet using the tech pack and BOM

  • Assist the Merchandise Manager in the preparation of trim cards and style files for factories, client and internal records

  • Ensure the PP meeting minutes and post production meeting minutes are present in the style tool

 

Qualifications & Attributes

 

  • At least 3 years’ experience in business administration management, inventory and sales

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft office especially Excel 

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of the business and an entrepreneurial attitude

  • Exceptional cross cultural communication and presentation skills

  • Ability to take initiative, problem-solving, and make decisions within job scope and beyond. 

  • Passion for working in a company with a social mission and building local capacity

  • Evidence of  the following characteristics: humble, self-aware, resilient, adaptable, poised, proactive, persistent, resourceful, able to work under pressure and respect deadlines, strong at building relationships and resolving problems, an active listener, a team player who is fun to work with, and full of integrity

  • Fluency in English
