EAA’s vision is to demonstrate that ethical manufacturing can and should be done at scale, not just associated with luxury or expensive product. Based in Ghana and Benin, EAA has a dynamic team bringing decades of experience from around the world in product development, quality assurance, account management, social impact, operations and finance. EAA works with West African factories to build technical and ethical standards to international standards. Their clients are international brands mostly from Europe and the USA interested in growing a manufacturing base in Africa with a positive social and environmental impact. EAA is also partnering with GIZ and private sector partners to launch a Technical Center of Excellence for management skill training including mechanic training.
Position overview
We have a great opportunity for someone with passion and desire to make a difference in clothing manufacturing to join Maagrace as a Senior Mechanic. This is the perfect role for someone wanting to broaden and challenge their expertise by helping to develop the industry on a new continent. This person would join a dynamic, fast-growing team bringing diverse experience from around the world.
This person will work in direct report to Maagrace General Manager and work closely with the production supervisors and operators as well as the EAA team. Conducting needs and risks assessments based on products and orders, maintaining all equipment, solving mechanical problems, and ensuring safety at all times will be critical aspects of this role. The Senior Mechanic is expected not only to fulfill the below deliverables but also to makingtrain local apprentice mechanics coaching and knowledge transfer to Maagrace teams to help all workers understand and maintain the machines well. and implement operator training on machine maintenance.
Key responsibilities

Conduct in-depth mechanical assessments (capacities and capabilities) of Maagrace including identifying gaps in machinery and evaluating state of equipment

Run a proactive / preventative maintenance and inventories inventory system for machinery and accessories

Train Maagrace teams on how to correctly handle each machine to respect safety and compliance norms

Before production starts, make recommendations on best machines in alignment with Maagrace General Manager and EAA technical Director

During the product development stage, advise correct machines and accessories to be used to achieve more production-friendly, efficient construction methods

Always make sure that extra machines are maintained mounted and ready to use to replace defective machines in the production line and avoid delay

Research and recommend machinery suppliers and specific machines needed for production (based on gaps identified in assessments) to the factories

Develop (make) guides/ folders and other tools necessary for efficient production if they are not available within the timeline required for production

Train Maagrace local apprentice mechanics in all of the above areas

Liaise with the Mechanic Advisor responsible for the design and delivery of mechanic and preventative maintenance training as part of the GIZ public-private-partnership program.
Qualifications, skills, and attributes required

Fluent in English
-
Excellent knowledge of garment industry machinery available on the international market - specifically knowledge of electronic, mechanical, automatic thread cutting machines in addition to less sophisticated machines. Knowledge of plotter a plus.

Proven successful experience in managing factory equipment maintenance programs

Proven experience in conducting factory risks and needs assessments and creating action plans to bring factory to excellence
