Finishing Manager

Position based in Koforidua, Ghana, West Africa

Maagrace Garment Industries Limited (MGIL) is an apparel manufacturing firm created in 2003. Currently the factory has 140 operators with the space to grow to employ 800 individuals. It is the largest employer in a region of a million people. Their vision is to develop a model factory that can show how ethical manufacturing can be done at scale in an African context. This will be achieved through innovation, efficiency and integrity, providing the best quality products to customers whilst empowering their workforce, especially women. MGIL is partnering with Ethical Apparel Africa (EAA), a sourcing company that provides international apparel brands with ethical, cost competitive and quality manufacturing solutions in West Africa. Based in Ghana and Benin, EAA has a dynamic team bringing decades of experience from around the world in product development, quality assurance, account management, social impact, operations and finance. EAA works with West African factories to build technical and ethical standards to international standards. Their clients are international brands mostly from Europe and the USA interested in growing a manufacturing base in Africa.

Position overview

 

We have a great opportunity for someone with passion to lead the Packing, Finishing and Shipping Team. The role will be based in Koforidua which is 2 hours outside of Accra in Ghana, West Africa. This person will report to the General Manager and will have the following responsibilities: 

 

  • Lead the Packing, Finishing and shipping team.

  • Follow up day to day target work, proactively identify problems and suggest solutions.

  • Maintain daily output finishing and packing, record and submit on time reports.

  • Liaise with the Warehouse team for raw material purchases for the Finishing Department.

  • Liaise with the Planning Manager and the Production managers to make a good plan to Monitor the finishing related process in order to meet on time shipment considering urgency and smooth running of production lines.

  • Liaise with the Quality Control and Assurance teams and Demonstrate Buyer standard setting on the Iron Table /Folding etc. Flag and report any quality default during processing. Continually improve the standard of quality and visual presentation of pressed and packed garments.

  • Ensure cartons availability for both internal and external AQL

  • Ensure Packing, Shipping & Finishing is woking towards WRAP certification including or considering the following:

  • Ensure to conduct all 7 point container checks appropriately upon arrival  of the container.

  • Coordinate to get the background checks of  cargo/container employees from the cargo/container owners.

  • Must make sure packed cargo/containers should be in a secure area in the factory.

  • Follow through to ensure that empty containers are inspected for damage and contamination prior to loading. 

  • Need to maintain a log of seal and container number for inbound & outbound cargos.

  • Need to maintain a log of abnormalities and discrepancies with seals.

  • Need to investigate, resolve and report to the customs or the police or container owner or clearing agent all appropriate abnormalities and discrepancies with seals.

  • Ensure employees are wearing their ID cards when working in the parking area. 

  • Must ensure visitors are always escorted by authorised employees in the packing/shipping area.

  • Workers’ name lists (Who work in the packing area) should be posted within the packing area.

  • Container Loading should be supervised by security personnel or factory management.

Qualifications & Attributes 

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in relevant positions : Quality Control/ Audit, Production Management (Finishing), Quality Inspection a plus

  • Previous experience working with ERP systems a plus

  • Ability to implement rigorous processes and systems. Excellent in on time reporting

  • Excellence communication skills and proven supervisory and project management skills

  • Passion for team training and development

  • Entrepreneurial attitude to taking on new challenges and taking ownership in a self-directed manner

  • Fluency in English
