Cutting Manager
Position based in Ghana (West Africa)

Maagrace Garment Industries Limited (MGIL) is a leading apparel manufacturing firm established in 2003 in Ghana (West Africa). With a current workforce of approximately 1,000 operators, the factory is in an expansion phase right now and will have the capacity to double its workforce. Situated in a region with a population of over a million people, MGIL stands as the largest employer, contributing significantly to the local economy.

MGIL is majority owned by Ethical Apparel Africa (EAA), a sourcing company that specializes in delivering ethical, cost-competitive, and high-quality manufacturing solutions to international apparel brands operating in West Africa. EAA boasts a dynamic team with extensive expertise garnered from various corners of the globe, spanning product development, quality assurance, account management, social impact, operations, and finance. EAA collaborates with factories across West Africa to elevate technical and ethical standards to meet international benchmarks. Their clientele primarily comprises international brands hailing from Europe and the USA, all seeking to establish and expand their manufacturing presence within the African continent.
Position overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and rigorous professional to lead our cutting department during a period of significant factory expansion. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual passionate about training local talent, transferring skills, and ensuring operational excellence. The position is based in Koforidua, Ghana (approximately 2 hours from Accra) and reports directly to the Factory Director.
Responsibilities

Lead and oversee all cutting operations to ensure efficiency, quality, and timely execution.

Assess the technical skills of the cutting team, identify gaps, and create structured development plans to build capability.

Provide hands-on coaching and mentorship, ensuring continuous skill transfer and long-term team development.

Develop and execute accurate lay plans, ensuring proper shading and spreading sequences are monitored and controlled.

Ensure fabrics are relaxed as per specifications prior to cutting.

Deliver daily production output to meet client requirements and deadlines.

Enforce health and safety compliance with all factory procedures, including PPE usage, replacement, and workplace fire safety protocols.

Maintain high standards of housekeeping and organization within the cutting room.
Qualifications & attributes

Fluency in English (written and spoken).

10–15 years of hands-on experience in garment factory cutting departments, including strong mastery of equipment such as band knife machines and spreading machines, across a variety of product types.

Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and transfer skills effectively across diverse teams.

Strong understanding of customer expectations and prior experience working with Western brands (USA/Europe).

Proven track record of conducting factory risk and needs assessments and implementing action plans to achieve excellence.

Excellent leadership, team development, and cross-cultural communication skills.

Prior professional or personal experience working/living in Africa strongly preferred.
