Quality Supervisor (night shift)

Position based in Accra, Ghana (West Africa)

Maagrace Garment Industries Limited (MGIL) is a leading apparel manufacturing firm established in 2003 in Ghana (West Africa). With a current workforce of approximately 600 operators, the factory has the capacity to expand and accommodate up to 800 individuals. MGIL has formed a strategic partnership with Ethical Apparel Africa (EAA), a sourcing company that specializes in delivering ethical, cost-competitive, and high-quality manufacturing solutions to international apparel brands operating in West Africa. Headquartered in Ghana, EAA boasts a dynamic team with extensive expertise garnered from various corners of the globe, spanning product development, quality assurance, account management, social impact, operations, and finance. EAA collaborates with factories across West Africa to elevate technical and ethical standards to meet international benchmarks. Their clientele primarily comprises international brands hailing from Europe and the USA, all seeking to establish and expand their manufacturing presence within the African continent.

 

Position overview

 

We have a great opportunity for someone with passion and expertise to oversee the quality of the production during our night shift system. This person will report to the Quality Manager (day shift) with a dotted line to the Assistant Production Manager (night shift) and work closely with the rest of the team working on day and night shifts. They will have the following responsibilities: 

 

Leadership and supervision:

  • Lead and supervise quality checkers and controls in warehouse, cutting, and sewing floor operations.

  • Ensure adherence to company policies regarding discipline, attendance, and work output.

  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to ensure team proficiency in standard operating procedures (SOP), tech packs, and quality protocols.

 

Pre-production preparation:

  • Participate actively in pre-production meetings held for the night shift team, collaborating with the Quality Manager to prepare necessary documentation and samples.

  • Ensure all relevant trim cards, fabric inspection reports, and pilot cut reports are readily available for review and implementation.

 

Quality audit:

  • Conduct regular quality audits across warehouse, cutting, and sewing floor operations to assess compliance with quality standards and procedures.

  • Document audit findings, identify areas for improvement, and collaborate with relevant workers and departments to implement corrective actions.

  • Ensure adherence to quality audit schedules and protocols, maintaining integrity and accuracy in audit processes.

  • Assist in developing corrective action plans for addressing defects, communicating effectively with QCs, operators, and checkers.

 

Night shift sewing floor oversight:

  • Ensure availability of inline and endline checkers in sewing lines, facilitating real-time quality control.

  • Monitor hourly production and address low-output areas promptly to mitigate constraints.

  • Implement and oversee the use of the 7.0 traffic light system for monitoring operator workstations.

 

Defect management and quality assurance:

  • Document and address critical defects related to legal, safety, and buyer requirements, collaborating with relevant stakeholders.

  • Evaluate major defects in collaboration with Quality Managers, implementing corrective actions promptly.

  • Ensure adherence to quality assurance policies, templates, and reporting structures, conducting regular checks to uphold standards.

  • Proactively identify areas for process improvement and implement best practices to enhance overall quality and efficiency.


Qualifications & Attributes

 

  • A degree or diploma in Textile Engineering, Fashion Design, or a related field is often preferred.

  • 2 years of experience in the garment manufacturing industry, particularly in quality control or supervisory roles.

  • Proficiency in quality control techniques, garment construction, and understanding of industry standards.

  • Certification or training in quality management systems a plus

  • Ability to identify defects and ensure that products meet quality standards.

  • Ability to lead and motivate the team to maintain high-quality standards while ensuring discipline and attention to detail

  • Skilled in identifying root causes of quality issues and implementing corrective actions.

  • Effective in communicating with team members, management, and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to adapt to changing production demands and industry trends.

  • Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks and ensure timely inspections and reporting.

  • A proactive approach to improving processes and quality standards.
