Health and Safety Supervisor

Position based in Accra, Ghana (West Africa)

Maagrace Garment Industries Limited (MGIL) is a leading apparel manufacturing firm established in 2003 in Ghana (West Africa). With a current workforce of approximately 1,000 operators, the factory is in an expansion phase right now and will have the capacity to double its workforce. MGIL is majority owned by Ethical Apparel Africa (EAA), a sourcing company that specializes in delivering ethical, cost-competitive, and high-quality manufacturing solutions to international apparel brands operating in West Africa. EAA boasts a dynamic team with extensive expertise garnered from various corners of the globe, spanning product development, quality assurance, account management, social impact, operations, and finance. EAA collaborates with factories across West Africa to elevate technical and ethical standards to meet international benchmarks. Their clientele primarily comprises international brands hailing from Europe and the USA, all seeking to establish and expand their manufacturing presence within the African continent.

Position overview

We are looking for a hands-on Health & Safety Supervisor to lead workplace safety, compliance, and employee welfare initiatives across our factory. Reporting to the Compliance Assistant Manager and working closely with the HR and Housekeeping teams, you will ensure legal and brand compliance, strengthen safety culture, support worker wellbeing, and maintain audit readiness (WRAP/SMETA). As MGIL expands its facilities and workforce, you will also support the development of scalable H&S and environmental systems for our new factory areas and contribute to sustainability and EDGE-aligned initiatives. This is a floor-based, operational role, ideal for someone who enjoys solving problems on the ground and working closely with teams.

Responsibilities

 

The H&S Supervisor plays a pivotal role, supporting workplace safety,  employee’s welfare and engagement in a fast-paced garment manufacturing  environment. This middle-management position ensures regulatory and  social compliance, promotes employee wellbeing, and fosters a culture of  safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. 

 

Health, safety & compliance

  • Implement and monitor HSES procedures aligned with Ghana law and international standards

  • Conduct daily audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations

  • Track and close corrective actions

  • Lead safety training and awareness programs

  • Maintain readiness for audits and certifications (WRAP, customer standards)

  • Support factory expansion projects by implementing H&S, environmental, and sustainability standards in new expansion buildings and processes (EDGE certification)

 

Employee welfare & culture

  • Support Workers Committee and grievance mechanisms

  • Promote respectful, safe, and inclusive workplace practices

  • Coordinate first aid, wellness initiatives, and health records

Qualifications & Attributes

  • Diploma/Degree in H&S, Environmental Health, HR, or related field

  • 3–5+ years’ experience in manufacturing or industrial environments (garment preferred)

  • Knowledge of Ghana labour law and social compliance standards

  • Experience with audits, investigations, and reporting

  • Strong Excel and communication skills

  • Comfortable training large groups

  • Practical, hands-on, and visible on the factory floor

  • Organized, proactive, and solutions-oriented

  • Able to influence teams and drive accountability

  • Trustworthy and respectful with sensitive matters

  • Passionate about worker wellbeing and ethical manufacturing
